Matrimonial Regimes

The spouses can choose the matrimonial regime of their choice before the wedding celebration.

They may choose one of the regimes provided in the Civil Code ( conventional community, separation of property and participation in acquisitions) or make any necessary changes to these plans, subject to public order and morality.

The spouses are allowed to change their matrimonial regime throughout their marriage but only after two years of implementation of their old regime.

In the absence of a choice of matrimonial regime, the legal regime will be   communauté réduite aux acquêts, meaning property acquired since the marriage (excluding inherited property) is jointly owned.

The divorce or the death of one of the spouses as well as the change of regime entail a dissolution of the matrimonial regime.
